GET YOUR GEEK ON

THEATRE WORKSHOPS FOR PRIMARY KIDS

Get Your Geek On by Isaac Drandic is a deadly 30-minute play celebrating First Peoples in STEM for year 3 and 4 primary school students.

It’s all about Djirra, a massive science geek, keen to win a local science competition at all costs, IF she can keep her biggest rival, Kevin, in check!

The performance is accompanied by interactive workshops with the students.

ILBIJERRI Theatre Company took Get Your Geek On to primary schools across Victoria for 1 and 2 day in-school workshops for groups of up to 30 kids, as part of our Ensemble theatre workshop program.

2024 workshop dates:

  • Regional Victorian Schools 26 February - 1 March 2024
  • Metro Melbourne Schools 19-23 February 2024

The workshop started with a performance of a 30-minute play called GET YOUR GEEK ON by Isaac Drandic, which the whole school is welcome to attend. Themes and activities from the show were then be teased out in the subsequent workshops. The school determines which young people most benefited from participating in these workshops, but we ask that First Peoples participants are prioritised.

ILBIJERRI Ensemble is an artist development program including First Peoples emerging theatre practitioners. 2024 Program Director, Nazaree Dickerson, trained the Ensemble team to lead workshops, collaborate with emerging and established First Peoples theatre artists, and build industry networks and career pathways. Running since 2018, ILBIJERRI’s Ensemble program has been shaped by its participants – and in 2024 the program aimed to equip Ensemble members with the skills to empower a whole new generation of little theatre-makers!
