We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Elders, Ancestors and leaders of the Kulin Nations on whose unceded lands ILBIJERRI Theatre Company is based.
We extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, recognising their resilience and ongoing connection to land, water and culture, despite ongoing colonial interruption and genocide.
Always was, always will be, sacred Indigenous land.

Koori Way and ILBIJERRI are teaming up to develop and tour a new social impact work addressing the prevalence of smoking within First Peoples communities. This program is supported by the nationally funded initiative, Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS), which promotes preventing or quitting smoking and vaping to improve the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
To develop the new creative work, Koori Way and ILBIJERRI staff will host a workshop program with a small reference group of 20 young First Nations people. During an initial two-hour online session and followed by another two-day in person session, participants will be guided by ILBIJERRI and Koori Way facilitators through theatre-style activities that promote learning and discussion around the issues of smoking and vaping, using First Nations modes of storytelling.
Based on The Score Model, ILBIJERRI’s participatory workshop and performance model designed to inspire positive pathways for First Peoples and communities, each session will encourage young people to collaborate and support each other while learning. Empowering them to share their thoughts and ideas around these issues in a safe and culturally appropriate environment.
ILBIJERRI is currently looking for new partners to present THE SCORE. If you would like to bring this project to your Community or support ILBIJERRI to share this model across the state and country, please get in touch with Community Producer, Lisa, at [email protected]
For over 20 years, ILBIJERRI has been deeply committed to its Social Impact program, an initiative designed to create innovative, culturally relevant engagements that connect with the community, spark critical conversations around systemic issues, and inspire positive social change. ILBIJERRI is passionate about delivering intentional and transformative experiences that address key challenges facing First Peoples.
ILBIJERRI has successfully implemented various models to deliver this work, each with unique strengths. Based on initial discussions with the VAHS team, which identified young people and community organisations as key audiences, we believe a version of THE SCORE model would be most effective for this project.
This project is supported by the Victorian Government through the Department of Health.
